Leave for a month and go to the other side of the world? Absolutely to do or you will regret it for the rest of your life.
If my friends read this report they wouldn’t recognize me; in fact usually I’m a very thoughtful person who takes years to make a decision but when I was offered as a destination Australia I
didn’t hesitate to accept.
When I told my friends that I was on the other side of the world for the whole month of July, the two most frequent questions they asked me were "aren't you afraid?", "A month? But it's a long
time”, both followed by exclamations like "but this way you will lose the summer!”
Now that I’m back home I believe that those who don’t undertake such experiences can’t understand how much a single month can give to you and how much a person can change in such
a short time. I believe that this experience challenges you in every sense: you have to relate to the family first and then with the other youth at the camp, you have to adapt to every situation, whether it is living in a country of 400 people in the middle of nowhere, as in my case, or simply eating what the family cooks.
One of the things that I enjoyed the most from this experience and that makes the Lions special is the camp shared with youths from all over the world.
I think this is special because everyone has its fears and insecurities related perhaps to having to speak a language different from the one used every day but which after a month become like a
second language.
I loved this experience and sharing it with international people, it makes me feel like we are all the same even if we came from different places, it was nice to compare each other about our
countries and their differences.
Now I feel like Australia is my second home but actually I feel like also the other countries which the youth came from are like a second home.
